Steps to Update Your Details on a Kenyan National ID Card
If your personal details have changed or are incorrect on your National ID, you can update them easily. Here's a step-by-step guide:
Step 1: Prepare the Required Documents
Ensure you have the following:
- Original National ID (with the outdated or incorrect details).
- Birth Certificate (certified copy).
- Affidavit explaining the reason for the update.
- Supporting Documents for the specific update:
- Marriage certificate (for a name change after marriage).
- Deed poll (for a legal name change).
- Court order (if applicable).
- Parents’ National IDs (if required for verification).
Step 2: Visit a Registration Office or Huduma Centre
- Go to your nearest Civil Registration Office or Huduma Centre.
- Request the "National ID Update" application form.
Step 3: Fill Out the Application Form
- Provide your current details and specify the changes needed.
- Attach the supporting documents to the form.
Step 4: Submit the Application
- Submit the completed form and documents to the officer in charge.
- Pay the required processing fee (usually around KES 100).
Step 5: Wait for Processing
- You’ll be issued a receipt with a tracking number.
- Use this number to check your application status online via eCitizen Kenya or SMS (send the tracking number to 20031).
Step 6: Collect Your Updated ID
- You’ll be notified when the updated ID is ready.
- Bring your receipt and the old ID for collection.
