How Foreigners Can Apply for a Kenyan Alien ID Card

Foreigners residing in Kenya for extended periods or for specific legal reasons can apply for an Alien ID Card. This ID serves as an official identification for non-citizens and is crucial for accessing various services in Kenya. Here’s a simple guide on how to apply:

Step 1: Verify Eligibility

To be eligible for an Alien ID card, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Have stayed in Kenya for at least 7 years continuously.

  2. Work Permit or Residency Permit – Proof of your legal stay in Kenya.
  3. Birth Certificate – A certified copy of your birth certificate.
  4. Proof of Address – A utility bill or rental agreement for address verification.
  5. Passport-Sized Photos – Two recent, passport-compliant photos.
  6. Application Form – Available at registration offices.

Step 3: Visit the Department of Immigration

  1. Head to the Department of Immigration Services or the nearest Huduma Centre.
  2. Request the Alien ID application form.

Step 4: Fill Out the Application Form

  1. Complete the application form with accurate personal details.
  2. Attach the required documents mentioned above.

Step 5: Submit Your Application

  • Submit your completed application along with all necessary documents to the officer in charge.
  • Pay the application fee (usually around KES 1000).

Step 6: Attend Biometric Capture

  • Your biometric information (fingerprints and photo) will be taken for processing.
  • You may also be required to provide additional documents depending on your situation.
