Applying for a Kenyan National Identity Card (ID) has become more convenient with online services. Here’s a step-by-step guide:


Step 1: Prepare the Required Documents

Ensure you have the following documents ready:

  • Original birth certificate and a copy.
  • Copies of your parents’ National IDs.
  • A notification of birth (if applicable).
  • Passport-sized photos (recent).

Step 2: Register on the eCitizen Platform

  1. Visit eCitizen Kenya.
  2. Create an account or log in if you already have one.
  3. Select the “Department of Immigration and Citizen Services” section.

Step 3: Fill Out the Online Application Form

  1. Choose the “National ID Application” option.
  2. Provide accurate details, including:
    • Full name (as per your birth certificate).
    • Date of birth and place of birth.
    • Parents’ details.
  3. Upload scanned copies of the required documents.

Step 4: Submit Your Application and Pay

  • Pay the application fee online using mobile money, debit, or credit card.
