Step 1: Check the Eligibility
Ensure your child meets the following eligibility criteria:
- The child is a Kenyan citizen.
- The child is under the age of 18.
Step 2: Gather the Required Documents
Before starting the application, gather the following documents:
- Child’s Birth Certificate (original and copy).
- Both parents' Kenyan National ID cards (or valid passports if the parents are foreigners).
- Passport-sized photographs of the child (ensure they meet the required specifications).
- KRA PIN (for parents, if available).
- A copy of the child’s school ID or any other identification document (if applicable).
- Parent’s consent letter (if applying for a passport for one parent’s child).
Step 3: Visit the eCitizen Portal
- Go to the eCitizen website.
- Log in or create an account if you don’t already have one.
Step 4: Select the Passport Application Service
- Once logged in, navigate to the Department of Immigration Services.
- Select Passport Application and then choose Apply for Passport for a Minor.
Step 5: Complete the Application Form
Fill out the application form with the following details:
- Minor’s Personal Information (name, date of birth, gender, etc.).

- Bank Deposit via the eCitizen portal.
Step 8: Book an Appointment for Biometrics
- After payment, schedule an appointment for the child’s biometric data capture.
- Choose your preferred appointment location (e.g., Huduma Centres or Department of Immigration offices).
Step 9: Attend the Biometrics Appointment
- On the scheduled date, visit the appointment location with the required documents.
- The child’s fingerprints and photograph will be captured, if applicable.
Step 10: Wait for Processing
The passport will be processed, which typically takes about 10 working days. You can also opt for expedited services at an additional cost.
Step 11: Collect the Passport
