How to Renew or Replace an Alien ID Card in Kenya

If you’re a foreigner living in Kenya and you need to renew or replace your Alien ID Card, here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process.

1. Renewal of Alien ID Card

If your Alien ID card is expiring or has already expired, you’ll need to apply for a renewal. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Check Your Eligibility

Ensure that you still meet the requirements to hold an Alien ID card, such as:

  • Valid work permit or residency status
  • Proof of continued legal residence in Kenya

Step 2: Visit the Department of Immigration

Head to the Department of Immigration Services or the nearest Huduma Centre.

Step 3: Complete the Renewal Application Form

Request the Alien ID renewal form from the immigration office and fill it out with accurate details.

Step 4: Submit Required Documents

Provide the following documents:

  • Your current Alien ID card
  • Valid passport with visa or immigration details
  • Proof of residence (utility bill, lease agreement)
  • Passport-sized photos

Step 5: Biometric Data Capture

You may be required to update your biometric information (e.g., fingerprints or photograph) during the renewal process.

Step 6: Pay Renewal Fee

The renewal fee will be required, which can be paid at the immigration office or through mobile money.

Step 7: Wait for Processing

Your renewal application will be processed, and you will be notified when your new Alien ID is ready for collection.

2. Replacing a Lost or Damaged Alien ID Card

If your Alien ID has been lost, stolen, or damaged, you will need to replace it. Here’s how:

Step 1: Report the Loss or Damage

Report the loss or damage to the nearest police station and obtain a police abstract.

Step 2: Visit the Department of Immigration

Go to the Department of Immigration Services or a Huduma Centre.

Step 3: Complete the Replacement Application Form

Request and fill out the Alien ID replacement form.

Step 4: Submit Required Documents

You will need to provide:

  • The police abstract (if the ID was lost or stolen)
  • Passport-sized photos
  • A copy of your valid passport
  • Proof of residence (utility bill, lease agreement)

Step 5: Pay Replacement Fee

A fee will be required to process the replacement of your Alien ID.
