How to Replace a Lost or Stolen Kenyan Passport

Losing your Kenyan passport or having it stolen can be a stressful experience, but don’t worry – you can replace it through a straightforward process. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get your replacement passport:

Step 1: Report the Loss or Theft

Before applying for a replacement, report the loss or theft to the nearest police station and obtain a police abstract. This is a crucial document required for your passport replacement application.

Step 2: Visit the eCitizen Portal

  1. Go to the eCitizen website.
  2. Log in with your credentials or create an account if you don’t have one.

Step 3: Select the Passport Replacement Service

  1. After logging in, navigate to the Department of Immigration Services.
  2. Choose the Passport Application service and select Replace Lost/Stolen Passport.

Step 4: Complete the Application Form

Fill out the passport replacement form with the following details:

  • Personal Information (name, date of birth, etc.)

  • Police Abstract Number

Step 5: Upload Required Documents

You’ll need to upload the following documents:

  • Police Abstract (from the police station)
  • Kenyan National ID (for adults) or Birth Certificate (for minors)
  • Passport-size photos (ensure they meet the required specifications)
  • Affidavit of Loss (sworn at a Commissioner for Oaths or Notary Public)

Step 6: Pay the Replacement Fee

After submitting the application, proceed to pay the passport replacement fee. Payment options include:

  • Mobile Money (M-Pesa)
  • Credit Card
  • Bank Deposit through the eCitizen portal.

Step 7: Book an Appointment for Biometrics

  1. Once payment is confirmed, schedule an appointment for biometric data capture.
  2. Choose your preferred appointment location (e.g., Huduma Centres or Department of Immigration offices).

Step 8: Attend Your Biometrics Appointment

  1. On the scheduled date, visit the designated centre with your original documents for biometric data capture.
  2. Your fingerprints and photograph will be taken as part of the process.

Step 9: Wait for Processing

The replacement passport will be processed by the Department of Immigration Services. This may take up to 10 working days. Expedited services are available at an extra cost.
